INTRODUCTION
TO THE STUDY
SUNDAY
JULY 4, 2010
From the words of Jesus in the gospel of John 16:8 we know that the
Holy Spirit has 3 tools in his tool kit for bringing lost sinners to
repentance.
They are: the conviction of sin, the
conviction of
righteousness and the conviction of judgment.
The Bible, is a book perfectly balanced in its content so
1/3 of it was prophecy when it
was written, and prophecy is all about the conviction of judgment.
So if we want to be balanced in our knowledge of the Bible and our
approach to
witnessing to people, it is important that we study prophecy and this
is what you will have the opportunity to do in the next 4 Wednesdays at
7.00
pm at this church.
Of course in 4 hours we cannot hope to deal with any one prophetic book
or subject in an exhaustive manner, so all we will attempt to bring is
a very general outline of prophecy, a very panoramic view which will
give us a very general sense of what prophecy in the Bible is all about.
If you come all 4 sessions and participate in the discussion, by the
end of this course, you should be able to answer and intelligently
discuss some very basic, general questions and this is the list of
these questions.
1) What is God’s plan for all time regarding man.
As a consequence of trying to answer this question, we will run into
and have the opportunity to discuss
a) If God knew that man was going to fall and many would
end up in
hell, why did he make man in the first place.
b) If God knew that Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels were going
to fall and bring evil and sin into the world, why did he make them in
the first place?
I do not expect that the answers will satisfy the vanity of the human
heart but it should be enough to satisfy the heart of faith.
2) What is Satan’s plan for all time?
We will take a sneak peek inside Satan’s war room
and we will find that he is trying to accomplish something specific and
in order to achieve his goal he is following a plan A and if that fails
he has a plan B that he will go to.
As a result of discussing this question we will run into and have to
understand
a) What is the purpose of the 7 year treaty that the
antichrist signs
with Israel in the beginning of the tribulation period?
b) Why is there a war in heaven at the middle of the tribulation period?
c) Why does the antichrist break the 7 year treaty after 3.5 years into
the tribulation period?
3) Who is the antichrist?
I am not talking about pointing at some world leader and saying he is
the antichrist.
There is a specific spirit being who is satan’s right hand
man in his fight against God and the Bible gives us enough good hints
in order to identify who this spiritual being is.
4) As we know satan is the great imitator.
The Christ is involved in two different programs as we see in the Bible
they are the program of creation and the program of redemption.
Satan, through his antichrist is also involved in two
programs.
We will see what these programs are and we will see how they are
reflected in the iron and the clay at the feet of
Nebuchadnezzar’s image in the book of Daniel.
5) Following the logic of satan being the great
imitator:
We know that Israel is God’s timepiece of prophecy. You look
at Israel and you can get a feel of how close God is in accomplishing
His purpose on the earth.
Is there a counterpart?
Is there a nation that you can
look at on the
earth and figure how close satan is in his final attempts to thwart
God’s purposes on the earth.
6) What is the final sign before the rapture?
This does not mean setting dates. It only means that we will identify
the last event that must happen before Jesus comes to snatch His church
out of this world.
These sessions are going to follow a discussion format. You can ask
questions and you will be setting the pace of the class with your
participation.
For the sake of uniformity and for reasons I will explain on Wednesday,
if at all possible, bring a king James version or at least a new king
James version to class with you. We will be doing a lot of Bible
surfing so it will be very helpful if you have tabs at the side of your
Bible.
